A thyroid profile (T3, T4, TSH) test refers to a series of blood tests that measure the thyroid hormone levels secreted from the thyroid gland. It is also known as a measure of thyroid function. The thyroid gland is situated at the front of the neck and produces: triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) hormones. Thyroid hormone production is regulated by a stimulating thyroid hormone (TSH). It is the role of thyroid hormones to regulate certain processes in the body including metabolism, energy production, mood, etc. Checking for the thyroid profile involves the TSH, T3, and T4 exam. The tests are formulated to separate hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism from the euthyroid condition.
